Picnic in The Promenade

60.00

John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, or The Prom as it’s known locally, is the social hub of Cobh. You’ll find unbeatable views of the harbour, a playground, antique cannons, plenty of seating, a bandstand, fresh coffee, bathrooms, and enough space to roll out the picnic blanket.

Named for President John F. Kennedy, who visited the area in 1963, The Promenade plays host to a variety of festivals, live music and markets throughout the year. Situated beside The Titanic Experience, in front of The Commodore Hotel, and within five minutes walk of Cobh Heritage Centre and Cobh Train Station, you should make it your business to find yourself in this park.

The Prom is an ideal place to centre yourself. Truly Scrumptious coffee kiosk is located within the grounds, there are public toilets with baby changing facilities attached, and a small playground for keeping the kids occupied.

You can order a picnic from nearby Seasalt Cafe, Cupacity, The Mex, or Leonardo’s Cafe Kimbo or create your own from the local convenience stores The BMC and Centra. All are within walking distance.

Cobh Insider; As with many things in Cobh, even the smallest details have a story. You’ll notice an insignia of an R on one of the cannons, this symbolizes the Romanov Empire . This is one of many that were captured from Russian forces by the British Army during the Battle of Sevastopol in the Crimean war and sent as trophies to towns throughout Britain and Ireland.
