Award-winning Belvelly Smokehouse

No other town in Ireland can boast that they are home to a Walter Scheel Medal-winner foodie. One of Europe’s most prestigious culinary awards was recently bestowed on Frank Hederman for his “four-decade dedication to producing the finest possible quality smoked salmon”, stating that Mr Hederman “redefined one of the most iconic products of Ireland’s culinary heritage”.

Hederman smoked fish can be bought directly from their stall at Cobh Farmer’s Market every Friday morning or can be bought online and collected from his smokehouse in Cobh. Find out more from their website. While his smoked salmon is unmissable, we also highly recommend the smoked mussels, and the smoked eel…oh and you have to try the fishcakes… We could go on!

Mr. Hederman smokes fish, which is a little like saying Steinway makes pianos. Savvy fish fanciers in England and Ireland — many of them, anyway — prize his smoked haddock, his smoked eel and especially his smoked wild salmon above all others.
New York Times

And the best, according to Richard Corrigan, Myrtle Allen and others, comes from Frank Hederman, who has been smoking wild Atlantic salmon – as well as eel, mackerel and mussels – in County Cork for 30 years. – The Guardian

“The finest smoke, the finest fish, the finest waters, the whole wide world in my honest opinion”.
