Cobh at centre of Cork Harbour Open Weekend 14th/15th September

Cobh Tourism is delighted to present the following events that give many opportunities for people to visit Cobh to celebrate Cork Harbour and all that it has to offer on the weekend of 14th and 15th September.

 

Cork Dockyard Photographic Exhibition. The final opportunity to see the 200 photographs that chronicle the glory days of shipbuilding in Cork. Saturday and Sunday. Cobh Heritage Centre concourse. FREE

Crab Fishing in the Promenade. Saturday 3 – 5 pm. A line, bait and bucket will be supplied. FREE

Cobh and the Lusitania Tragedy. Sunday 2 – 4 pm. Jack Gilmartin will outline the tragic events of 7th May 1915 when almost 1200 lives were lost with the sinking of the ship by a German torpedo. The town’s link with the tragedy through the immense rescue and humanitarian efforts, the funerals and the repatriation of bodies will be outlined at the gravesides in the Old Church Cemetery. FREE

Band 1 Southern Brigade recital. Sunday 3pm. A performance on the Victorian Bandstand in the Promenade. FREE

Other Events take place throughout the harbour and city quays. Spike Island has reduced ferry fares and free guided tours throughout the weekend and the around the Great Island Row takes place on Sunday, starting at 12 noon in Cobh town centre.
