Next week up to fifty International anglers will converge on Cobh for a sea angling festival that is widely known as providing great fishing, great facilities and is great craic.
Organised by Cobh Sea Angling Club many anglers return year after year from Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Germany and Switzerland.
The weather for next week is looking promising, which will ensure that fishing is possible outside the harbour on each of the 4 competition days. This is a serious competition with a €7500 prize fund that includes €2000 in cash prizes. However the friendship, camaraderie, banter and slagging is something to behold. Each day out fishing is great fun and it just doesn’t end when the fishing is all over as competitors retire to one of the nominated pubs to discuss the day’s activities and, more importantly, to discuss the ‘one that got away.’
The end of the festival is marked by a gala night and prizegiving in the Commodore Hotel. The overall winner will receive a perpetual trophy and a cheque for €1,000. Local angler, Danny Kane, has won this for the last two years on the trot. Will he win it a third year? 49 other anglers reckon they’re in with a shot!!!
