This year’s Barrack Hill Ball Roll took place on Monday August 1st, when despite a damp afternoon thousands of people came out to see the unique spectacle and take part in the afternoon packed full of family entertainment. The Band of 1 Southern Brigade performed on the Promenade Bandstand at 2:30pm, there was a very popular Crab Fishing competition and the Big Ball uphill challenge saw five teams battle it out. Here teams of three have to roll a big exercise ball UP THE HILL in a relay and this should be a huge attraction in 2012.
This year 6980 coloured numbered balls cascaded and bounced down the steepest hill in Cobh – West View. This is a charity fundraising event in aid of two charities – Brainwave Ireland and the Head and Neck Oncology unit at the South Infirmary Hospital, Cork. Each ball was sold for €2, netting over €6000 for each of the charities.
A date for your diary – 6th August 2012!
