On Wednesday next 20th October at 8 pm there will be a very unusual Musical Event in St. Colman’s Cathedral.
Dutch carillonneur Boudewijn Zwart will play his mobile Concert Carillon that goes under the name Bell Moods in the Cathedral. The performance will also feature the Cathedral Choirs and the organ. This pipe organ is the work of master organ-builder William Telford, himself a student of one of the greatest organ-builders of all time, the Frenchman Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. Not surprisingly given its provenance, its specification is that of the French romantic style and as such is reminiscent of the most celebrated pipe organs, such as that of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. A major restoration project for the Cathedral organ is about to be launched to ensure that this irreplaceable part of our national musical heritage will be preserved for future generations.
There will be a silent collection during the concert in aid of Pipe Organ Restoration fund.
